Considering the electricity consumption and load growth rate of Qeshm Island and the project under construction of two 500MW power plants on the island and the necessity of transferring additional generation of these two plants to the national grid as well as supplying needed and reliable electricity in the current conditions due to the transmission line limitation of the existing line 230kV (crossing the sea) and the aging of the line and the instability of the foundation due to the heavy flow of seawater, in order to increase the reliability of the island’s electricity supply, technical and economic studies were carried out as two options for the construction of a second overhead or submarine cable transmission line. Acknowledges that, after feasibility studies by these consulting engineers; The submarine cable was adopted and approved.
The approved plan is for the construction of a submarine cable and 230kV overhead line to connect the Pool port in Bandar Abbas and the port of Loft in Qeshm Island.
The length of the submarine cable is about 3.5 kilometers, which will be connected to onshore overhead T/L after crossing the sea.
